THIS IS ME
I wasn’t planning on writing a damn book. Apparently I had more to say than I thought.
EXPLORE THE BOOK →I'm a Tennessee contractor, a divorced dad raising a teenage boy, and apparently a writer now, too.
I started out building decks for a living. Somewhere along the way, I started writing books, launched a magazine, built an online radio station, opened a couple of places for people to hang out, and somehow ended up selling my used underwear on the internet.
Yeah, that last one surprised the hell out of me, too.
And that's just part of it.
I never sat down with some grand business plan to build all this shit. One thing led to another, somebody gave me an idea, and next thing I knew I was sitting up at two in the morning figuring out how to make it work.
Anyway, if you're new around here, welcome. Take a look around. Read something, listen to the radio, stop in and shoot the shit, or see what else I've gotten myself into.
There's a little bit of everything around here. And most of it probably shouldn't be under the supervision of the same damn person.

I put my stories, opinions, everyday life, and whatever’s been getting on my nerves into a magazine. It’s called Rough Edges. Nobody who knows me asked why.
Come read a little. If you like what you find, join me over there.
TAKE A LOOK INSIDESome of my life. Some of my opinions. Some things you ought to know before you pick up a wrench. You can try the free chapters before you spend a dime.

I never said I was a good example. Figured I ought to get that on the cover.
EXPLORE THE BOOK →
My no-bullshit beginner’s guide to fixing things.

The explanation is free. The underwear ain’t.
FREE PAMPHLET →
I built a place where people can meet, talk, and shoot the shit. Stop in and make yourself comfortable. I wander in when I get a minute.
COME ON IN
I’ve got an Arcade, Durst Country TV, a Sweepstakes Room, and a Cinema in the works. If something says Opening Soon, I haven’t finished the damn thing yet.
TAKE A BREAK
Because apparently having a website wasn’t enough. Put Durst Radio on while you work, make supper, or sit there pretending you’re about to get up and do something.
TURN IT ON
I still do. Joe Durst Construction is my actual trade. Lumber, tools, sweat, and something solid standing there when I’m done. This is the work the rest of this circus grew out of.
SEE MY WORK
I put my name on a sweatshirt. Saves you the trouble of explaining whose bad influence you’ve been under.
SHOP MY WORKWEAR
My boy Tucker’s got a Scentsy business. I’m over here covered in sawdust, and he’s making the place smell like somebody has their shit together.
SEE TUCKER’S PICKS
My collection of products, merchandise, and assorted finds. Go poke around. I’ve probably found something else since you were last here.
POKE AROUND
I build decks. I write books. I sell my used underwear on the internet. I understand that’s a strange sentence. Imagine being the fella living it.
If that’s what brought you here, you already know where you’re going. If it wasn’t, well, now you know that, too.

Read something. Listen a while. Come say hello.
I’ll be around here somewhere, probably starting another damn project.
